Mother's Day for me,is every day!
Not a day passes without Thanking her for all the wellwishes she used to shower on me,even when I used to illtreat her often times!It is so amazing how a person can be so very kind and wishing me and my Family always well!
My mother is one of those orthodox type who got married to my father,as per the practice at that time,after my mom's elder sister who was married to my father suddenly passed away!Probably she was just 14+ when she came over to a house full of unknown individuals and two elderly 'Pattys'..one my dad's own Mom and my dad's periamma,who had adopted my father!
Luckily (she used to tell me) my Periamma Patty took her aside as soon as she landed and told her
"leave all the problems of the Cooking to me"..she did that till her death at the age of 87 and I have seen her kindness to my mother but for which my mother wdn't have succeeded in a Family ridden with poverty and many other problems!
The burden of bearing as many as seven kids(one died on the 10th day) and trying to make them presentable from a remote town..was not an easy task at all..but she did that with absolute smartness..and when I came to know that she discontinued her studies at the 8th std..I wondered what a great personality had she been if she had only continued her studies upto college in those days!
She used to get one after the other all her relatives married to a reasonably good family..and even today many of them who have prospered because of her benevolence recall with gratitude
"what a great lady she was"
My father was so affectionate to my mother that when he was honoured with the Presidents award,she used that money to buy a nice Diamond RIngs for her...a long felt desire in him that something shd be done for his wife...
He passed away suddenly after the Shashtiapthpurthi and my mother was undergoing her menopause period,which in a remote town like Ramnad wd have been a nightmarish experience indeed!
Since she had to face this period alone ,as me and my brother were employed in Bombay and all my sisters were in different places,two married and two younger ones going to college,
we never ever understood her real problems in Ramnad at that time.
I brought her to my house in Bombay and tried to give her some comfort which she refused and wanted me to help her to buy a house in SRirengam,so that she cd visit the temple every day and try to calm herself!
As a true son,I helped her to get that house in West uttara street and again she had some happy days!I used to take my daughters often and we all used to have a nice dip in the coleroon and enjoy the simple lunch of my mother,which has been one of my most happiest periods of my life!
Even tho' I was away in NIgeria I used to send her cards,send tapes and she used to feel happy.. that some one is still caring for her(I wd say here that she carried some unhappiness in her memory that not all her children showed the same type of affection as I used to)
She took some liberty with me to scold me whenever and she used to demand certain items whenever...
One day she told me she needed a TV,as at that time(1987..I think)only TV was getting introduced and I rushed to send the First ECIL Tv for her from Trichy..which she enjoyed for a few years!
She had a special love for my wife and infact she loved her more than myself and always prayed that my daughters all do well in the examns!
When my elder daughter got Scholarship to go to Princeton for Under Graduate,we went to get her blessings and she said:"See.I am praying Renganathar every day for your welfare..thats why.."''she hugged my daughter and told her"You will get more honours in your life!"
Both my daughters never minded some inconveniences in a place like Srirengam
(NO Attached Bath rooms;No Showers;I used to pour water from the well!)
as they were so happy to see their patty.
A simple Vattha Kuzhambu from her Kumitty Aduppu,
was always the best food available in the whole world!
She never forgot to send Greetings for me for every New Year
and she sent this one in 1998 which I still preserve in her memory...

I can never imagine that her kindness,her adjustment with the most difficult persons you cd
ever think of;her soft spoken words even when we lose our temper,her unimaginable intelligence to analyse a person,and forecast precisely what would happen if we do such such a thing..above all her cooking ..
Oh! God!
WHICH IS NOT A MOTHER'S DAY...PLS TELL ME!
I ALWAYS TAKE HER BLESSINGS WHENEVER I FEEL LIKE,
EVERY MOMENT....
SO EVERY MOMENT IS A MOTHER'S MOMENT...
EVER SHE WILL REMAIN INSIDE ME!
AND BLESS ME FOR EVER AND EVER!

wonder ful tribute to Mother! I liked it! as you correctly said how could only one day devoted to either MOTHER or WOMAN ??Funny -as far as mothers day is concerned it should be ever 365 days
you can read a small poem of mine on MOTHER!
MOTHER!
When God created this Garden
The one being on earth
To bear every thing is Mother!
While we love, we hate
We curse, we cajole,
It is the Mother
Who just laughs and loves!
I have learnt lessons from Mother
It is Mother always with you
Sharing and caring till death!
I have realized the only concept of life;
Learnt the only lesson from life;
Enjoyed the only joy of life;
Passed through the only heaven on earth;
Its Mother!
When ever I suffered from pain
It vanishes soon,
And the pleasure last long;
For a moment thought to be of mine;
But realized late;
Only the joy she sends
Drops she sheds!
When ever I feel proud of myself;
When ever I feel floating on cloud nine;
I thought it’s my accomplishment
Only to realize later
It is the invisible blessings of Mother!
I have been always under the impression
That it was my hands were acting
My tongue was singing
My heart was beating
And I was writing;
But; the Mother!
As the saying goes;
Behind every fortune there is a crime
Behind every success there is a woman
But above all;
Behind the endurance of this creation
There is Mother!
